INDIANA BEATS (?) MICHIGAN

This week’s commentary on Indiana University football will be brief. The 2026 version of the IU offense is terrible. It bears no semblance to the 2024 and 2025 versions of IU’s offense. Those teams were disciplined, physical, and not error-prone. They rarely got illegal procedure, delay of game, or unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. They pulled off big runs for long gains. When it was third and long, they got a first down. They punted rarely. And the two previous quarterbacks accurately threw the ball to receivers. This year’s receivers do catch the ball, but so often the ball is uncatchable; it’s nowhere close enough to try to catch.

BOTTOM LINE: Josh Hoover is no Fernando Mendoza or even Kurtis Rourke. He’s a huge disappointment. This offensive line, despite all the pre-season hype of their talent, has failed to open lanes for the running backs for three games in a row. These things, plus undisciplined play, all bother me.

Next up is Minnesota who has beaten Michigan and Iowa and can sneak up on you if you’re not prepared. Hoover better play like he did in the overtime and not the way he played the other 60 minutes. Because if his overtime heroics don’t continue, we’ll rack up loss number 2.
